Key terms used across the Swipe Aras platform and documentation.

Term

Definition

Account

Your merchant entity on the Swipe Aras platform. Contains one or more stores, your compliance/KYC information, and your billing configuration.

Account Holder

The Adyen-side representation of your merchant account on the Adyen Balance Platform. Your Swipe Aras account maps to an Adyen Account Holder.

Adyen Store ID

An Adyen-issued identifier for a specific store on the Adyen Balance Platform. Distinct from the Internal Store ID (the Swipe Aras S-prefixed reference). Use when contacting Adyen support directly about a specific store.

ARN (Acquirer Reference Number)

A 23-digit network-level identifier assigned to a card transaction by the acquirer. Used by card networks and issuing banks to trace payments. Not currently displayed in the Swipe Aras dashboard — contact support to retrieve.

Balance Account

An Adyen-managed holding account for a specific store. Processed funds accumulate here before being swept to your bank. Each store has its own balance account.

BIN (Bank Identification Number)

The first 6 to 8 digits of a payment card number, identifying the issuing bank. Not displayed on standard transaction views in Swipe Aras; appears only in dispute interception (RDR) rule criteria and Ethoca fraud alerts.

Business Line

An Adyen object that groups your business activities and is linked to your legal entity. Required for KYC and capability verification.

CAID (Card Acceptor ID)

A terminal- or location-level identifier used in some payment processing systems. Swipe Aras does not collect or use CAID — our equivalent identifiers are the Internal Store ID and Adyen Store ID.

Chargeback

A forced reversal of a transaction initiated by a cardholder through their issuing bank. Results in a debit from your balance account.

Chargeback Rate

The percentage of your monthly captured transactions that result in chargebacks. Monitored by card networks against compliance thresholds.

Commission

Revenue share paid to resellers and/or sales agents based on transaction volume from their assigned merchant accounts.

ECP (Excessive Chargeback Program)

Mastercard's chargeback monitoring program. Threshold: 1.0% (standard), 1.5% (excessive).

Ethoca

Mastercard's pre-chargeback alert network. Alerts merchants before a chargeback is formally filed, giving a window to refund and prevent it.

Hosted Onboarding

Adyen's secure, merchant-facing portal where bank details and KYC documents are submitted. Access is via a time-limited, single-use link.

Industry Code

A classification code that identifies the type of business a merchant operates. Swipe Aras Industry Codes follow Adyen's NAICS-derived taxonomy and are typically 2 to 6 digits, sometimes with letter suffixes (e.g., 4451, 722511, 4431A). Sometimes called MCC, though Swipe Aras Industry Codes are not the same as the 4-digit ISO 18245 MCCs used by card networks.

KYC (Know Your Customer)

Identity and business verification process required by financial regulations before a merchant can accept payments.

Legal Entity

The Adyen-side representation of your business. Your bank account (Transfer Instrument) is attached to the legal entity, not to individual stores.

MCC (Merchant Category Code)

A four-digit code that classifies your type of business. Set at the account holder level; all stores under an account share one MCC.

NOC (Notification of Chargeback)

An early warning that a dispute has been filed. Funds have not yet moved. You may be able to prevent the chargeback by issuing a refund.

NOF (Notification of Fraud)

An alert indicating a transaction has been flagged as potentially fraudulent. Leading indicator of incoming chargebacks.

PSP Reference

The unique payment identifier assigned by Adyen to every transaction. The canonical ID for all transaction lookups.

Pull Sweep

An automated transfer from your bank account into your balance account (top-up direction). Created by Swipe Aras during account approval.

Push Sweep

An automated transfer from your balance account to your bank account (payout direction). Runs on your settlement schedule.

RDR (Rapid Dispute Resolution)

Visa/Verifi's automated pre-chargeback resolution program. Merchants configure rules to auto-resolve disputes before they become chargebacks.

Representment

The process by which a merchant contests a chargeback by submitting evidence to the card network.

Reseller

An organization that resells Swipe Aras payment processing services to merchants. Also called an ISO.

Settlement Delay (T+N)

The number of days after a transaction capture before funds are available for payout. N is your agreed delay (e.g., T+2 = 2 days).

Split Rule

The configuration that determines how a transaction's amount is divided among the platform, reseller, and merchant at settlement time.

Store

A location or sales channel under your account. Each store has its own balance account and can have its own checkout settings.

Store ID

A unique identifier for each store in the format S + 10 alphanumeric characters (e.g., S1A2B3C4D5).

Sweep

An automated transfer rule that moves funds between your balance account and your bank on a defined schedule. See Push Sweep and Pull Sweep.

Transfer Instrument

Your verified bank account on file. The destination for all payouts. Attached to your legal entity, shared across all stores.

VDMP (Visa Dispute Monitoring Program)

Visa's chargeback monitoring program. Threshold: 0.9% (standard), 1.8% (excessive).
